Fun n Games

Just get out and do it

WORDS RACHEL FARNAY JACQUES

It’s always interesting returning home after a long absence. Time passes, things change, time to catch up. So it’s been fun to rediscover my home of Perth. Perth is famous for being three things: the most beautiful city in the world; the most isolated city in the world; and one of the windiest. Lots of people who live here want to add most boring. But I take issue with that. I’ve always been of the opinion that bored people are boring people.

Since returning my spare time has been jam-packed with things to see and do. Pretty parks in every suburb to run through; stunning beaches of different personalities to discover; animal parks to wander; endless new bars and restaurants to indulge in; wine regions to lose yourself in; a stunning river that beckons you to stay awhile; and now the Perth International Arts Festival, busting with a great variety of acts. The arts and culture aren’t just in summer either. The outdoor film festival for instance stretches over five months in various parts of the city. Then there’s all that sports stuff going on that guys get so excited over. Heck, I even went on a 4-night cruise recently from Perth to Albany and Margaret River.

Don’t get me wrong, Perth’s no New York. But that’s fine with me. My days of surviving a frenetic metropolis are over. I suspect the people dissing Perth are the same ones who fill their days Facebooking, Twittering, Myspacing and mouthing back at news’ blogs. Far too much time on their hands. My advice, go build what you want and we will come… maybe.
